Welcome to the latest episode of Harmonious World, where I interview musicians about how their music helps make the world more harmonious.

I’ve just come back from a weekend at Love Supreme 2026 and it was great to catch so many artists. You can read my reviews on the website. Along the way, I had a second chat with pianist Sultan Stevenson, who I featured on Harmonious World in April 2025.

Thanks to Sultan, you can hear the title track of his 2025 album El Roi alongside our conversation.

Don't forget the Quincy Jones quote that sums up why I do this: "Imagine what a harmonious world it would be if every single person, both young and old, shared a little of what he is good at doing."

Hilary

Hello and welcome to the latest episode of Harmonious World. My name is Hilary Seabrook, and I am just back from Love Supreme 2026. My weekend didn't go quite according to plan, so I don't have as many interviews as I hoped for. But I have a great one coming up which you're gonna love with pianist Sultan Stevenson. What you're listening to now is the title track, Eldoir, from his 2025 album. I also interviewed Sultan a year ago. I saw some great artists across the weekend, uh including Ezra Collective, Moses Boyd, Annie and the Caldwells, a couple of past guests, including the amazing Heliane Correa. I also saw Courtney Pine, who I am begging to come on Harmonious World, and Bill Frizzell, who was just amazing. They really set my day two alight. But there was also Lamar and Jalen Ugonder. I also saw Samara Joy, Judith Owen, and I was introduced to DK Harrell, who confessed to not feeling very well, but sang brilliantly and played amazing guitar. You can check out all of the reviews that I did over the weekend on my website. All the links are in the show notes. And I hope you enjoy listening to my conversation in a moment with Sultan Stevenson about a really, really exciting project that he got involved in on day one of Love Supreme. Hi Sultan, it's really, really good to see you. Thank you, it's good to see you to see you too. Fantastic. So tell me what it is you're doing here at Love Supreme. It's a wonderful thing.

Sultan

Um I'm here at Bands of Voices Stage, which is one of the smallest stages in the festival. Which I only got work to do two days ago. I'm here organizing a jam. As a collective curating festival. The final room was significant for people it's a bit of an incubator. So people allowed the jab music and expressions. I think what he wanted to create. And each one's each one.

Hilary

Fantastic. It's great. You can hear a little bit of it now. They're actually getting into it now.

Sultan

There was some real sort of nervousness at the first. It's a very big festival. It has a massive reputation as well.

Hilary

Yeah.

Sultan

Um some of the musicians probably didn't even know that they were gonna perform last week. So it's a real big thing, but it's a real amazing opportunity to actually just be on the stage and to play to be.

Hilary

Yeah, fantastic. Well, thank you so much.

Sultan

It's really good to talk to you.

Hilary

I hope you enjoyed that brief insight into Love Supreme. It was really good to hear some young musicians playing and to talk to Sultan, who is very much up and coming. So I hope you enjoyed listening to that little snippet of Harmonious World this week. Uh, normal service will be resumed next week. I have some incredible artists lined up, some of whom I've already interviewed, and several of whom I am going to be interviewing through the rest of July, into August, and then more still lined up in September. So please make sure that you subscribe, share, and break the review wherever you get the podcast. Thank you for joining me once more for Harmonious World.
